My beautiful children

February 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I have been feeling very down over the last few days. Things easily get on top of you and you can’t help but let them sometimes – if that makes any sense!!!

The main problem has been my dad’s illness. It’s so upsetting to see how ill he is at the moment, and there is nothing I can do to help him. He had an appointment at the hospital today, checking for heart disease, which I had already prepared myself for the hospital reporting that his heart is getting worse as he has been rather sick lately. He still needs to go for a major op ASAP. This is just one of many appointments he will have to attend before the op!!

My husband has been great the last few days. Helping take my mind off things and just generally being very lovely towards me (I think we all need a break sometimes – my parents are hoping to take a trip to Paris very soon, just to recharge their batteries.)

We went out to the park with the kids a couple of days ago, and they cheered me up so much. My four year old daughter was using the digital camera and took some very funny pictures that we laughed at when we got home – most of them being of our three year old boy posing!! They play so well together and are always laughing and smiling. They make me so happy when I see them getting along so well. Of course this is not all the time. They can argue so much, you would think I had twenty kids in the house, instead of two!!

My husband and I also went out shopping today with the kids, and usually they play up something terrible at the shops. They hate shopping, and make sure we know about it!!! Yet, today they were so good. They held my hands all the Way round the shops we wanted to go to and didn’t complain once about being tired or wanting to go home.

We then went for a nice pub lunch, and they were equally as good. They ate all of their lunch, and didn’t nag for a dessert. They didn’t even sit and fight as they usually would!! So, we then decided they had been such great kids, we treated them to a toy shop visit (this is usually a no-no because they run riot, screaming, shouting – it’s very scary!!!) and they were really great. They were quiet and played nice with the different toys they came across; and when I said it was time to leave – they followed!!!

They have made me so proud and so happy.Especially with how I am feeling at the moment. My children can always make me very happy. I love them both so much.

Thanks for reading

The things you come across on the internet!

Came across this article on the internet and it really made me laugh so much, I just had to share it with everyone.

Nation Shocked By Pre-Natal Shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, NM–Investigators are trying to determine what led an unborn child to fatally shoot his twin with a .38-caliber revolver during an altercation in their shared Albuquerque womb Monday.

According to police, the twins’ mother, Evelyn Alpert, 34, was awakened at 4 a.m. by the sensation of a scuffle in her uterus, which she dismissed as “routine kicking.” Approximately 30 minutes later, Alpert heard and felt three pistol shots.

A subsequent forensic ultrasound revealed that the unborn gunman–identified as a five-inch-tall male Caucasian of slight build with no eyes or hair–shot his brother twice in what eventually would have become his heart.

After a tense four-hour standoff, the unborn gunman threw out his weapon when police threatened to induce labor. Police spokesmen have denied that the use of tear gas or forced C-section was ever considered. Alpert was unharmed in the shooting, with two of the bullets lodging themselves in the victim and the third passing harmlessly through the birth canal.

The shooter has yet to emerge from the crime scene, but a court-appointed lawyer has said that the fetus will surrender himself peacefully upon his post-partum separation from Alpert sometime in early October.

“This whole tragic chain of events is hard to comprehend,” Albuquerque mayor Jim Baca said. “Where did we as a community fail these unborn boys? Could their parents have done a better job of conceiving, carrying, and pre-natally educating them? And how did the fetus get access to firearms?”

Police officials say the shooter used a revolver registered to his father, Lee Alpert, who may have left the firearm within reach of his wife’s womb. No charges have been filed against the man at press time.

According to Albuquerque D.A. Eugene Billups, though the assailant is legally recognized as a fetus, he will be tried as an infant. Pretrial hearings begin next week, and ultrasound technicians will not be allowed in the courtroom.

“This is hard to take,” Billups told reporters. “These kids were no more than babies.”

Offering the Alpert family “my deepest sympathy and support in this difficult time,” President Clinton said he is redoubling his efforts to pass tougher obstetric gun-control legislation.

“Last year, I called upon Congress to require trigger locks on handguns and place metal detectors at the entrance of every womb,” Clinton said at a White House press conference. “Such laws may well have saved the life of that unborn child. I now ask Congress to do the right thing and pass that legislation, as well as a measure extending the waiting period for firearms beyond nine months. We must keep handguns out of the unformed hands of our nation’s fetuses.”

The fetus, following the advice of his attorney, has offered no comment on the shooting.

Having a sad day today :(

Raining Feeling fed up today:(

I woke up this morning and just wanted to stay in bed. I can’t shake how crap life seems to be today.

The reason being is my dad is very ill, and every so often it hits me and I find it hard to cope for a while. He was diagnosed with a serious heart problem a few months ago, and has to have a major operation ASAP. I think we just assume our parents will always be there for us, no matter what.

This cat looks how I feel today:) This pic made me smile when I came across it on the net!catandbird.jpg

It’s been a big shock for me to see my usually fit and healthy dad almost collapse from trying to walk up a small flight of stairs. I hate to see him like that. He visited today, and looked very drained and very ill. It just upset me more.

whopper.jpg    Kind of makes me want to be underneath this rather big rock!!!

I’m sure I will be feeling a lot happier tomorrow, but it does help to write stuff down. I’m rather glad I started this blog.

Numberjacks drive me nuts!!

February 24, 2007 · 1 Comment

OK. Not sure if many people know the Numberjacks, but here’s a general show description so you know what I’m complaining about.

The Numberjacks are animated characters – the numbers zero to nine – who live in a sofa and solve problems outside. Each episode has the same structure. At the beginning of the episode, some of the numbers will be engaged in an activity that will have relevance to the problem that is later discovered. Then an “agent” (a live-action child) will call in and describe the problem that is occurring. One or two of the Numberjacks will go out into the real world to solve the problem, while the remaining Numberjacks stay in their base and watch progress on a screen.

Once outside, the Numberjacks are shown in a live-action setting (although still animated themselves). They diagnose the problem by examination and with help from additional ideas from the agents, who call into the base. The problems are usually solved by creating and sending “brain gain”, a magic force that can correct the problems once the solution is understood.

Once solved, the Numberjacks return to their base, replay what happened on a screen and then ask a question of the viewer.

The problems encountered are all based around simple mathematical concepts and the programme is intended to stimulate young children’s interest in mathematics. (Oh, it stimulates them alright!!!)

Numberjacks These are the culprits for me tearing my hair out!

My four year old and three year old adore this program. It is on Cbeebies after their dinner every evening. They don’t watch TV during the day, so enjoy a bit of TV after teatime. Sounds a great show, doesn’t it?? and if they just sat quietly and watched it, I would be a very happy mummy. Yet, every evening is the same. We pretty much have all-out war in our house; simply because everyone wants to guess the number that will be sent to ’save the day.’

I am assuming there hasn’t been many of these episodes shown on TV as my kids instinctively know which numbers to choose so they win, but as they both know this information – they argue about it, EVERY EVENING!!! Our neighbours must think we are nuts, because the amount of screaming and shouting that comes out of our house at 5:15pm all to do with a kids TV show is ridiculous. Yet, our general argument goes something like this:

“I’m number 4.” 3 year old.

“No, I’m number 4.” 4 year old.

“Well I’m number 5.” Me :)

“No, I want number 5.” 3 year old.

“you’re number 4, I’m number 5.” Me again.

“No, I’m number 5, I’m 5, I’m 5.” 3 year old again.

You get the idea. This is just a snippet of our evenings. I personally think this program should be completely banned from TV completely – just to save my sanity!!

Aahhh, that felt good to rant a little. Thanks for reading :)

Hello world!!

February 22, 2007 · 2 Comments

Hello. Welcome to my blog page – hopefully I won’t bore you all too much!

Well, let me tell you about my life. I am 29 years old – facing the very scary 30!! I have two very lovely toddlers, a great husband and a very mad 9 month old kitten.

I have started this blog as I am a writer and have written extensively for magazines in the UK and worked in America (up until a year ago) writing a column for a newspaper. This was a very life changing experience for me and I seem to have been struck with writers block since returning to the UK. So, hopefully by writing this blog, I may unlock my creative mind once again and start writing that novel I have always wanted to do.

As this is my first attempt at a blog of my own – I am still getting to grips with how it all works so, please bear with me :)
